What are the benefits from the use of CAT tools?

Lower cost and faster project implementation. The segments from new projects enrich client's individual translation database that reduces the time for the next project implementation. On all repeating segments are granted special pricing discounts what gives gradual decrees of costs for project implementation.

Consistency of translated texts and used terminology: CAT tools significantly affect the quality of realized projects, ensuring consistency all translated documents.  With CAT tools all repeated text fragments are translated in exactly the same way, which is particularly important in the case of projects involving more than one translator. CAT tools also allow for the construction of individual glossaries, which are relevant to the customer database of terms and phrases. Through the use of glossaries, all key terms relevant to a proper understanding of texts and consistency with internal nomenclature of the client will be translated identically in all subsequent projects.

The use of CAT tools is particularly appropriate for the management of multilingual documentation and for large translation projects, because the number of repeating segments in projects is usually very high. CAT tools allow to maintain consistency of translated documents, control of the used terminology, time and costs reduction in preparation of the projects.

How do CAT tools work?

CAT tools are used to analyze the source files, where the number of characters and words in the text is calculated. Next, system divides the whole text on so called segments- usually single sentences, that are compared with each other, as well as with segments that are present in the translation memory (in the database of pre-translate texts) aiming to find all repetitions. Segments are divided into four categories:

- internal repetitions- appearing as part of a given text identical repetitions of the segment;

- 100% matches - the segments of which identical repetitions are in translation memory;

cat tools work

- fuzzy matches-  these are segments which are similar in a specified percentage, but are not identical with segments translated in the past;

- no matches- new fragments that do not repeat in the text and do not appear in  the translation database.

The program automatically suggests translations for repeating segments, so the volume of the text requiring translation is significantly reduced. Each translated segment is automatically saved in translation memory.
